NT LABS Test Nitrite (NO2) for Optimal Aquarium Health
The NT LABS Test Nitrite (NO2) is a specialized aquarium water testing kit engineered to detect the presence of nitrite in your aquatic ecosystem. Nitrite is produced by beneficial filtration bacteria as they break down toxic ammonia excreted by fish. While it is a natural part of the nitrogen cycle, nitrite remains highly damaging to fish health if it accumulates in the water column. Because it is invisible to the naked eye, regular testing is the only way to ensure your tank remains a safe habitat.
Maintaining a nitrite level of zero mg/L (ppm) is critical for the long-term survival of your fish. This kit provides a reliable way to monitor these levels, allowing hobbyists to take immediate action—such as substantial water changes—when levels exceed safe thresholds (0.25 – 0.5 mg/l), preventing potential fish loss and promoting a stable biological balance.

How to Use This Water Testing Kit
- Ensure the provided test tube is completely clean and free of residue.
- Collect and pour a 5 ml sample of aquarium water into the test tube.
- Carefully add 5 drops of the Nitrite reagent to the sample.
- Securely replace the test tube cap and shake the tube thoroughly to mix.
- Wait exactly 2 minutes for the reaction to complete.
- Compare the resulting color of the sample to the provided color scale. A colorless sample represents zero nitrite, while any hint of pink indicates the presence of nitrite.
- Note: Any color changes that occur after the initial two-minute window should be ignored.
Care & Maintenance Tips
- Corrective Action: If nitrite levels reach 1 mg/l (ppm), perform a 25% water change. For levels above 1 mg/l, a 50% water change is essential.
- Holistic Monitoring: Whenever nitrite is detected, it is highly recommended to also check other vital parameters, specifically pH and ammonia levels.
- Storage: Keep the reagent bottle tightly sealed and stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Contamination Prevention: Always rinse your test tube with distilled water or the aquarium water being tested before starting a new test to avoid cross-contamination.
