How to Use HOUYI Expanding Foam
Follow these professional steps for optimal results when using HOUYI Expanding Foam for your scaping projects:
- Prepare the surface: Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and completely free from dust, debris, and moisture before application.
- Shake the canister: Vigorously shake the can for at least 1 minute to properly mix the foam formula.
- Open the cap: Remove the cap by turning it in a clockwise direction as indicated on the packaging.
- Attach the adapter: Connect the included plastic sprayer hose to the canister for controlled application.
- Apply strategically: Aim at the bottom or deepest part of the area you want to fill, starting from the bottom and working upward.
- Control expansion: Only fill approximately 30% of the target area — the foam will expand significantly during curing.
- Wait for initial cure: Allow the foam to cure for at least 60 minutes before attempting to shape or trim.
- Shape as desired: Use tools like rulers, pen knives, or sculpting tools to shape the foam before it fully hardens.
Care & Maintenance Tips
- Clean equipment immediately: Wipe away all foam residue from the hose and cap after each use to prevent blockages and ensure consistent performance.
- Shape while workable: Use shaping tools within the first 60 minutes after application when the foam is still malleable.
- Bonding applications: Can be applied between rock surfaces or driftwood pieces to securely bond and anchor decorations together.
- Storage considerations: Store the canister in a cool, dry place with the cap securely tightened to maintain product quality.
- Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation during application, especially in enclosed terrarium or vivarium setups.
- Surface preparation: For best adhesion results, roughen smooth surfaces slightly before applying foam in aquarium applications.
- Aquarium safety: Once fully cured (24-48 hours), the foam is completely safe for submerged aquarium use with fish, plants, and invertebrates.
